Our Story

Forty years on one lovely street

We are three independent shops on Wyle Cop, in the heart of historic Shrewsbury. This is how it all began, and why not much about it has changed.

Where it began

It started with one small shop and a simple rule

Back in 1985 our founder Stacey opened the first shop on Wyle Cop with one rule to live by: only fill it with things we would happily wear ourselves. No trends for the sake of it, no filling rails just to fill them. Just pieces we genuinely loved.

Forty years later there are three shops instead of one, spread a few doors apart on the same street. Clothing, essentials and jewellery, each with its own character, all still run by people who care.

Almost everything else has stayed the same. We still choose every piece by hand, we still buy in small numbers, and we still know most of our customers by name. That is not nostalgia, it is simply how we think a good shop should feel.

What we believe

The Oberon way

Chosen by hand

No head office, no algorithm. We pick every piece ourselves, the way we have since day one.

People first

We remember your name, your last purchase and what suits you. That is the whole point of a proper local shop.

Made to last

More slow style than fast fashion. We would rather sell you one thing you love for years than five you forget by spring.

The best way to understand Oberon is to walk through the door. Meet the people who make the shops what they are.
